  • The third section, "Cloudlet..." is from an add-on called SearchCloudlet.
* The specific Preference is called "Add links to other web search sites", for Google Web Search, and "Add links to other image/photo/art search sites" for Google Images. And similar things for Google News, Video, and Blogs.

TIP: Drag a webpage's URL from Location bar, or from a tab, within a browser or amongst browsers

You can click on the icon of a webpage that you are visting, to another browser, or open it in a new tab by dragging it to the Tab area.

This works within* a browser, and amongst** browsers! Moreover, you can also drag them amongst browsers, e.g. Firefox, Flock, Safari, SeaMonkey Navigator, and even IE (Internet Explorer) - but, not Opera.

Vernor Vinge's novel A Deepness in the Sky - UNIX epoch

I had forgotten that, "Vernor Vinge's novel A Deepness in the Sky describes a space-faring trading civilization tens of thousands of years (hundreds of gigaseconds) in the future that apparently still uses the Unix epoch" (Wikipedia)

Cool.

Stop neglecting reading multiple email accounts - Use Gmail to send from your other email addresses - Adding a custom 'From' address

Q: Do you have multiple email addresses? Do you ever neglect reading any of your email addresses?

A: If you answered yes to either question, you can benefit from using Gmail to combine* all of your email addresses to a single Gmail account *AND* be able to send "as" any of your email addresses.  After you've set up your email accounts within Gmail, you can then send as any of your email addresses, from the Compose window, use the "From" pop-up field to select the desired account**.

*Google (Gmail Help) explains how to do this with "Adding a custom 'From' address", for example, start by going to Settings–>Accounts - under "Send mail as," click " Add another email address you own"

Gmail - Add another email address you own - example

** for example:

Broadband outage - 2Wire 3800HGV-B Gateway router

Elster REX type R1S single-phase kWh smart dig...Image via Wikipedia

Recently we had a Broadband outage at home. It lasted for more than 24 hours. The cause, as it turns out, was that the 30 second electrical outage, due to the replacement of the power meter by PG&E, broke something within the 2Wire router (for our AT&T U-verse), model 3800HGV-B Gateway . Over the phone, the tech support agent had asked me to power cycle the router, and then to 'reset' the router. These did not resolve the issue, so someone was dispatched.

After reviewing all of the connections, over the course of more than 3 hours, the onsite technician reset the router. This time, that the router was reset, the reset button was held down for 30 seconds, as opposed to the 15 seconds which was recommended by the tech support agent.

Hopefully, the onsite representative will tell his teammates *and* the tech support center, that 30 seconds works better than 15 seconds. But, he may not tell, as he may be embarrassed that he had not tried that at the beginning of his visit, before spending the 3+ hours troubleshooting it as a connectivity issue.
